Gwen Murphy, PhD, MPH2005-2008 Cancer Prevention Fellow
During 2005-06, the first year of her fellowship, Dr. Murphy earned a Masters in Public Health from University College Dublin. Upon completion of her MPH, she came to the NCI for two years of prevention-based research. Her current research centers on the Polyp Prevention Trial cohort, a 1991-94 multi-center randomized control trial to evaluate the effects of a high-fiber, high fruit and vegetable, low-fat diet on the recurrence of colorectal adenomas. Dr. Murphy is using the data from the biological samples of 1,905 trial participants to inform her epidemiological/molecular epidemiological analyses and thus develop her skills as a true translational
scientist. She works with Dr. Elaine Lanza of the NCI Center for Cancer Research.
